Actually… What is a Bridal Shower?
For those of you who might not know what a bridal shower is, the principle is simple! Again the bride is the center of attention. The bridal shower can be a reception, a brunch, a garden tea party anything but it has to be really girly. It is a cocooning day between girls where the bride is covered by gifts like accessories, clothes… But above a day where she can relax! Gather the troops:
No one expects you to plan it alone. Spreading the responsibility helps lighten the load and the costs. Plus, it gives you the chance to spend some preshower social time with the other women in the bride’s life. Even if you think you can pull off this gathering on your own, it’s a nice gesture to give others the opportunity to help.
Where to start?
The bridal shower should take place between 2 weeks and 1 month before the wedding day, the bride will start to be really nervous and it will help her relax. 3 month before talk to the bride. Does she want an afternoon tea or Saturday night soiree? Does she want a particular bridal shower theme, style or color… Let the bride be involved as much or as little as she’d like. If she doesn’t give you a lot of details consider that you have full permission!
The Guest List:
The guest list includes people who have a close personal relationship with the bride. The shower is generally women-only, it’s customary to invite the bride and groom’s mother, grandmothers, aunts, the bride’s closest friends, and, if the shower is a larger event, you may extend the invitation to a few work friends or girlfriends of the men involved in the wedding party. But keep in mind that anyone you invite must also be invited to the wedding!
The bridal shower invitations:
Start off an invitation with something clever to grab invitees’ attention. Use a catchy phrase, image, or special paper that sets the tone or reveals the theme of the event and makes them want to RSVP right away. State where is taking place the event. Be clear about the RSVP date, and include a phone number and e-mail address so invitees can easily let you know whether or not they can attend. Planning a kitchen, lingerie, spa or other themed shower? Let guests know about the theme so their gifts and gift wraps add to the party ambience. Remember to send out the invitations at least 1 month before the bridal shower so people can mark the date in their calendars.
Bridal Shower theme and entertainments ideas:
A travel shower could feature maps laminated into place mats, a globe centerpiece, a menu of international tastes and “tickets” for invitations.
For a lingerie party you might drape the table with a cloth of silky chiffon, caught at the corners with bows of satin ribbons.
For a food-related theme you could prepare a giant candy bar, culinary entertainments or cooking lessons. Organising it in her favorite Chinese restaurant can be an option too.
If the bride is crazy about Disney princesses, this could be the dress code of the party and you could plan a blind test gathering all her favorite Disney songs for example.
A beauty shower can take place at home or in a spa, it could feature a nail polish bar, facial cares, massages…
